Brothers Cleaners was originally founded in Raleigh in 1916 by Emil Hilker, a German immigrant. Emil’s twin son’s, Jerry and Jim Hilker assumed ownership of the business after his retirement and ran it successfully until the mid 1970’s, when they went their separate business ways. I live in Durham and seem to be continually searching for a good dry cleaner, as the good ones seem to sell out. I have actively avoided purchasing dry clean only clothing because of our difficulty in finding a good cleaner. My husband bought a beautiful pair of wool and cashmere trousers and promptly got a spot on them. I tried 2 recommended cleaners in Durham and neither were able to touch the spot. I just recently started going to Brothers for my dry cleaning. I appreciate their text reminders when my cleaning is ready to be picked up and everyone has been friendly and easy to work with. I intend to continue using Brothers for my cleaners.
